WALK IN THE MILL – 16/1

£10 EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT SPORTING BET (*All Profits to NHS Charities)

I never thought we would be reduced to betting on virtual horse racing guys but these are strange times we are living in where we’re happy to do almost anything to break the monotony of perpetual lockdown.

The race is being run for charity so Tiger Roll is an unlikely winner in my opinion as this will cost the bookies a fortune you would think so I’m going to recommend a couple a little higher in the betting. The race has already been run and pre-recorded with the company responsible, Inspired Entertainment, having produced a computer-simulated version of Aintree’s Virtual Grand National using computer-generated imagery (CGI) to recreate, as realistically as possible, all facets and features of the race such as the course layout, National fences, etc. They have been generating this virtual race for a few years now and as well as being fascinating and fun it has proven since 2017 to be incredibly accurate with last year’s virtual winner Rathvinden finishing 3rd in the actual Grand National, Tiger Roll won both in 2018, and in 2017 virtual winner Cause Of Causes finished 2nd in the real event. You can watch the previous runnings of the race on their Youtube Channel here – https://www.youtube.com/user/Inspiredvirtual/videos. How have Inspired Entertainment been so close to the actual result each year you may well ask? They have done this by using algorithms which take in to account many of the factors I would assess when choosing a tip such as the ground, the horses most recent form, their form at Aintree, trends analysis of past winners of the Grand National, etc. So, with all this in mind, they will want the result to be believable so I don’t think there will be a shock winner at 50/1 plus. The past three winners have all been fairly short in the market so I’m going to stick with that trend by suggesting Walk In The Mill who is prominent in the betting at 16/1. Some of you may remember, I had him tipped last year and we got paid out at 33/1 for him finishing 4th. A year further on, with the form he has been in having won the Randox Health Becher Handicap Chase (Grade 3) last December, I’m sure he would have been in my shortlist for this year’s race and all the data available points to him going close in a virtual running of the event so he looks a great each way bet with the bookies paying the first 5 places.

DEFINITELY RED – 14/1

£10 EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT SPORTING BET (*All Profits to NHS Charities)

My second selection is Definitely Red who finished 4th to Walk In The Mill in the Becher Chase last December and now meets him on 10lb better terms after having him ran very well twice since and, even at 11 years old, he seems to be progressing and better than ever. He loves Aintree having won there twice and, with a similar profile to my main selection, I can see him showing up well in the algorithms and not being too far away. I hope that this strategy of betting two horses each way will yield us a profit and hopefully even give us the winner. Good luck!
