FRONTAL ASSAULT5.00 CLONMEL

WIN BET ADVISED AT 9/4 AVAILABLE WITH WILLIAM HILL

The 3.30 is a wide open Beginners Chase which I managed to narrow down to about 8 with winning chances. So, it’s not a race to get too heavily involved in. My best each way guesses to take on those at the head of the market are Cushintown Finest (8/1), Mutadaffeq (9/1), & Global Fert (13/2).

In the 4 o’clock the Willie Mullins trained odds-on Favourite, Bachasson (8/11), looks very hard to oppose back over fences after finishing an excellent 6th in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham 13 days ago. He can’t really be tipped or backed at the current 8/11 when he was available at a value looking 11/8 last night but, in this field, he is the most likely winner provided Cheltenham hasn’t taken too much out of him.

In the 4.30 I was seriously considering tipping Trigger who ran just two days ago where he went down by a head over an unsuitably short 2m3f and has been turned out quickly stepped up to a much more suitable 2m7f as he is due to go up 4lb. However, long-term supporters will know I’m not keen on horses on the drift and that is what’s happening with Trigger on Betfair where he has gone out to 7/2 while the bookies, miserable lot that they are, have kept him at 11/4. I’m assuming it is because the drying conditions at the track mean the ground has gone against him with his trainer saying “the ground is probably going to be a major negative for him”. There has also been strong support for West Is Best (7/1) & Misty Adage (7/1) while I don’t think last year’s winner Highest Benefit (8/1) or Ask Heather (8/1) are out of it either. So, I’m afraid it’s a watching brief for me in this one.

In the 5 o’clock my selection is Frontal Assault who is a best priced 9/4 with William Hill but is available at 11/4 on Betfair Exchange (if you don’t yet have an account with these guys you really should set one up as they provide on average a 20% better price than the bookmakers). Frontal Assault is a fast improving 5 year old who brings more experience than most in to this and his 6.75 lengths 3rd of 11 to two subsequent winners (one of which was Ferny Hollow who landed the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham 13 days ago) reads very well in the context of this race. You couldn’t ask for better than an in form Jamie Codd (Last 14 days: 4-12, 33%) on board while Frontal Assault has been shaping like today’s extra 2.5 furlongs would be very much in his favour.
