NUBOUGH – 4.50pm CATTERICK
0.5 PTS EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT 16/1 AVAILABLE WITH BET365
I’m advising an each way interest in Nubough at 16/1 with BET365 who are paying 3 places even though William Hill, Betfair Sportsbook, and Paddy Power are currently offering 14/1 while paying 4 places. Some of you may prefer to place your bet with them for the insurance of the extra place but I’m hopeful he will be good enough to at least place in the top three.
Nubough, who was bought for 35,000 GNS in July 2019, has dropped 9lb down the weights since this time last year where he was contested in Class 3 to Class 4 races and his best run came at Newmarket in this Class over this trip when he finished 2.75 lengths 2nd of 6 to the Roger Varian trained Mutamaasik who went on to be officially rated 102. Nubough was running off a mark of 83 but in receipt of 7lb from the winner and ran to an RPR of 87 so a repeat of that run would leave him looking well-handicapped competing off a mark of 75 today. That is entirely possible as he has been consistent for the most part having run to RPR’s between 81 & 87 seven times to date.
The bare result of his seasonal debut at Ayr three weeks ago doesn’t look too good at first glance with him having finished 6.75 lengths last of 9 but that doesn’t tell the whole story. He was arguably travelling best of all and was one of the last off the bridal before being hampered, stopped in his run, then eased inside the final furlong. The first two finished clear with the very well-handicapped dual subsequent winner, Prompting, winning the race and the other 7 finishing in a bit of a bunch with only 2.75 lengths separating 3rd to 9th. The selection has never ran at Catterick but there is hope he will handle it as he has ran well at Chepstow which has a similar downhill, undulating, sprint track. He should strip fitter for his seasonal debut run, he is well-drawn in stall 2, the trip and ground are fine, the excellent Paul Mulrennan keeps the ride, and the Iain Jardine yard are going through a particularly good spell (Last 14 days: 5-23, 22%). My overall feeling was he is better than a mark of 75 and being by Kodiac there could be more to come from him as a 4 year old. Good luck!
