EAGLES DARE – 5.35pm LINGFIELD
1 POINT WIN BET ADVISED AT A GENERALLY AVAILABLE 9/1
Hi guys, I like the chances of the Denis Coakley trained 3 year old gelding Eagles Dare (9/1) in this but no one seems to agree with me as the 11/10 Favourite, The Tide Turns, is all the rage with 12 tipsters from the main publications coming for him in the Racing Post including their Spotlight column.
I think The Tide Turns can go well after an easy 3.5 lengths victory over this trip at Wolverhampton on his handicap debut just last week. He runs here under a 6lb penalty and still looks on a fair mark running of 66 which is the same mark as the selection. However, I thought this 1m4f looks about as short as The Tide Turns wants so he is likely to make this a test of stamina from the front and I thought he could set this up for Eagles Dare who won by 3.5 lengths on this surface at Chelmsford last October in this Class 5 over 1m2f when he came late running on strongly through the line to win going away. He was heavily backed on his seasonal debut at Nottingham over 1m2f 38 days ago but never really got in to the race perhaps being poorly positioned on the wrong part of the track throughout before finishing 5.25 lengths 8th of 11. He didn’t get to show us on that occasion how good he is and stepped up to 1m4f back on Polytrack I think we will see a very different horse.
I have doubts about both Pride Of England (100/30) and Arthur’s Angel (8/1) wanting or staying this trip and Rain Guage (6/1) is probably high enough in the weights against less exposed horses and would probably prefer Tapeta underfoot. Fascinating Shadow (18/1) looks high enough in the weights making his handicap debut off a mark of 75 on what he has shown so far so, while open to improvement with Rossa Ryan a very good first-time booking, hopefully won’t be good enough.
This 6-horse race looks between the Favourite, The Tide Turns (11/10), and Eagles Dare who at 9/1 looks the value in the race. Good luck!
