This a typically competitive 12-runner Newcastle All-Weather handicap but I think the 4 year old gelding SHALLOW HAL has to be backed at 16/1 with SKYBET who are the only bookmaker I’m aware off who are paying 4 places in this race. As I write this at 4.45am the selection is also available at 16/1 with Bet Victor who are only paying the first three horses home.
SHALLOW HAL has gone well on his two starts under Pierre-Louis Jamin, who takes a useful 5lb off, winning off 74 at Southwell over this 6f trip three starts back before going down by 1.5 lengths finishing 2nd of 9 to a progressive three year old off 81 back at the same C&D next time. He won off 84 on turf in October 2018 and runs off a mark of 82 today.
He is well-drawn in stall 12, has ran well here in defeat three times in the past, and could go close fully fit on his fifth start of this Winters All-Weather campaign. He looks well over-priced at 16/1 returned to 6f after a third failed try at 7f last time. Good luck!
