I’m as interested in the trainer as the horse with this selection. Sam Allwood is a little known but up-and-coming trainer based in Shropshire who has only had his National Hunt training licence since mid-2019 but has made a great start to his career with 10 winners from 55-runners for an 18% strike rate and he has a 67% strike rate with the horses he has sent to Wetherby (2-3).
He had a successful career as a point to point rider so will know horses like today’s selection, Rob The Getaway, well with the 7 year old gelding having just arrived to him from that sphere. He won a point-to-point bumper at Aintree in May 2018 (2m1f), a couple of 3-mile PTP races, and that experience will stand him in good stead as he embarks on his chasing career over today’s 2m3.5f.
On the face of it, he has a difficult task today making his debut over regulation fences but that bumper form wasn’t bad (RPR 105), the change of yards may have freshened him up, and his new trainer may be able to work his magic with him.
It is a fairly speculative selection so please don’t expect too much but I felt he looked over-priced at 100/1 considering the trainer’s record at the track so hopefully he can outrun those odds and perhaps hit the places for us. Each way advised at the price in this 8-runner race. Good luck!
