MORISCO – 2.40pm HAYDOCK

0.5 PTS EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT 40/1 WITH BET365

The progressive 3 year old Tom Dascombe trained gelding Morisco looks massively over-priced and worth an each way interest in this 7-runner affair at the industry best price of 40/1 with BET365. He is generally available at 33/1 elsewhere.

He was unfancied (18/1) and had no chance last time off joint top weight, giving a massive 16lb to the winner, in a Class 2 handicap at Newmarket on ground which didn’t suit (officially Soft). However, back in a Group 3 in receipt of an 8lb weight for age allowance from all his older rivals his chances look much better.

He won 2-4 as a 2 year old and showed a good attitude on his seasonal debut back in June quickening up best from off the pace over this trip on Good ground in a Class 3 handicap at Newbury to win by a comfortable 1.5 length margin. He had Man Of The Night 2.5 lengths back in 3rd, off level weights, that day and that one went on to finish 1.5 lengths 2nd of 11 in the handicap at Newmarket 29 days ago where Morisco finished 12 lengths 10th of 12. It’s true, Man Of The Night had a 6lb pull in the weights with Morisco for a 2.5 length beating but even this points towards the selection either not giving his running or the ground not suiting as such a big reversal shouldn’t have been on the cards being so little better off at the weights. It also suggests to me Morisco may well have gone close in that handicap if it had been run on better ground. Back on Good ground today, with hopefully further improvement to come from this 3 year old on only his seventh career start, having achieved a career best RPR of 103 on his seasonal debut, compared against the form of his rivals he looks weighted to go close.

Each way advised at that generous looking 40/1 with BET365 who are offering a quarter the odds for 2 places. I’m not as confident as I was with yesterday’s 20/1 winning Nap, Minhaaj, mainly because it’s not easy for younger horses to beat their older, stronger, much more experienced rivals in these highly competitive Pattern races. However, with that said, a 3 year old has won this 3-times in the last 5 years. Good luck!
