They landed a nice touch with this 6 year old back in October (16s in to 10/3), drawing well clear with Made For You who went on to win twice since, and is now 13lb higher rated.
The selection ran better than the bare form on his next start, but the front two were subsequently over 20lb ahead of the handicapper so it was no surprise he wasn’t good enough, and I really don’t think he wanted the ground that soft either.
He was pretty weak on his seasonal debut last month, similar to last year, seeming to need that first run of the season. But now he’s only 3lb higher than his win at Kelso last season. Perhaps they were getting it ready for the transition of father to son, as Ewan has now taking over the trainer license, and he’s going great so far over the sticks, where he is 2 from 2.
I’m sure come race time we’ll know how much of a chance the horse actually has, so we could be a run or two too early, but he’s a big enough price to chance. I see Skybet are the only firm offering to pay an excellent 5 places on the race and BET365 have just gone 20/1 but are only paying three places.
