Andapa won quite snugly last time, and the handicapper has probably let her in a bit lightly off just 5lb higher, but hopefully she’s vulnerable down in trip by half a mile.
Saintbury Lady won 2 of her 3 handicap starts over hurdles last season, but they tried their hand over fences for her first run this season, where she was a massive drifter, and jumped extremely novicey, making several mistakes, and eventually falling. I think she showed she’s still got the engine, and a really good 5lb claimer (25% over hurdles this season) puts her back to the mark of her comfortable win at Newton Abbot.
Eventful is a 4 year filly who caught the eye on more than one occasion in her qualifying runs, held up in rear, and never really put in to the race. She was a fair horse on the flat, 67 rated, and although extremely weak in the betting on the handicap/seasonal debut (8s out to 40s) last month, she travelled and jumped like a horse who can make an impact over the sticks.
You like to think she really needed that first run, and the fact that it’s been 35 days since we’ve last seen her, would suggest that there was plenty still to work on. It’s hard to know with this stable when the day is, but the first time tongue tie hopefully shows some intent.
