STARLITE DANCER – 3.00 NAAS
EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT 12/1 AVAILABLE WITH THE FOLLOWING BOOKIES…
We’ve been doing pretty well in Ireland with two winners yesterday at 9/2 & 20/1 and two second place finishers at 9/4 & 15/2 but that was over the jumps and today is the start of the Irish Flat Season. This is a whole different ball game as we’re dealing with horses who haven’t ran in 6 months or like in today’s 2 o’clock none of the 8-runners have ever saw a race course before. There are some horses which have been campaigned on the All-Weather over the Winter so, if you’re having a bet, they may be the ones to concentrate on because at least you know they’ll be fit. I normally watch for the first few weeks of the flat season until the horses show us which ones are in form but, in these exceptional circumstances, with people locked up at home bored to tears I’ve made an effort to pick us a couple of winners while we’re being entertained.
The 2 o’clock wasn’t very appealing with 8 runners who have no form and is even less appealing now that a non-runner has been declared leaving 7. Before Allagar was taken out I was going to suggest, for various reasons, small stakes each way on Boasting (20/1) & Marketta (11/1) but with each way only paying the first two now the appeal has gone so I’ll leave it up to you what to do with them if anything.
The 2.30 isn’t very appealing as a betting or tipping medium either being an 18-runner 6f dash with very little form to go on. Two who have ran previously are Grizzly (11/2) and Woodford General (7/1) so they are my token suggestions against the field. Please keep your stakes small as only the first three (out of the 18) home get paid because it isn’t a handicap.
The 3.00 doesn’t look much easier being a 14-runner handicap where 10 of the runners haven’t raced for 4 months or more. The well-supported Favourite, Dark Vader (11/4), brings very good form from the AW and has a fitness advantage so I’m guessing he won’t be far away and wouldn’t put anyone off having a bet on him but in a race with so many unknowns I’m not sure he represents great value at the price. So, at bigger prices, Starlite Dancer is my selection. He is running from 3lb out of the handicap but gets in off bottom weight so I don’t think that is going to inconvenience him too much. He was a running on 3rd of 10 when last seen in October over a slightly shorter trip than this so today’s 6f on easy underfoot conditions could be ideal. He was contested mainly over a mile last year so is completely unexposed at the trip and at 14/1 he could just be the one to serve it up to the Favourite.
