SHISHKIN

1 PT WIN BET ADVISED AT A WDIELY AVAILABLE 1/2

I didn’t want to do a full write-up for a 1/2 shot and didn’t really think it was necessary for Shishkin who has proven he is one of the best horses in the country and should take all the beating particularly now Energumene has been declared a non-runner.

2.30pm Cheltenham3m1f (Old) Ultima Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (5yo+)

HAPPYGOLUCKY (NAP)

1 PT WIN BET ADVISED AT 7/2

I’ve narrowed this 16-runner handicap down to five who I thought had winning chances. In price order they are – Happygolucky, Aye Right, Milan Native, Alnadam, and Discordantly. However, my selection is the Favourite, Happygolucky, who could simply prove too good for his more exposed rivals now handicapping off a very workable looking mark of 147. This 7 year old gelding is unexposed as he has only had three runs over fences with his record reading 121 including a Novices’ Chase win on the New course here back in December. He handles the track and has back form in the book having been 4th in the Martin Pipe last year and 3rd in the Ballymore the year before. The Kim Bailey yard is in form (Last 14 days: 4-24, 17%), he handles the forecast Soft ground, he goes well fresh, he is proven in the hustle & bustle of big-field handicaps, and there should be plenty more to come from him on only his fourth chase start. Many of you will know I didn’t want to be tipping my third Favourite in a row but all the information available is telling me Happygolucky is very much the one to be on. Those of you who want an option an each way prices may want to have a small interest on Alnadam.

EPATANTE

0.5 PTS EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT A WIDELY AVAILABLE 4/1

The unbeaten Irish mare, Honeysuckle, has been all the rage for this for a long time now and has been heavily backed over the past couple of days from 5/2 in to 11/8 Favourite. She must have every chance but is little value at the price and all the support for her means that Nicky Henderson’s Epatante now looks a backable price at 4/1 having won this easily last year on similar ground when sent off 2/1 Favourite. She has to be forgiven a slightly below par run last time when beaten by Silver Streak last time but she had an issue and is reportedly, “over the problems that saw her disappoint over Christmas” and “her work has been very good”. I don’t usually advise backing horses each way at 4/1 but it looks the shrewdest move here with such a hot Favourite and Epatante highly unlikely to be outside the first three home barring mishaps.

CONCERTISTA

1 PT WIN BET AT AN INDUSTRY BEST PRICE OF 11/8 WITH PADDY POWER

You can see here I tipped Concertista a few days ago as one of my “Bankers” of the week.

Willie Mullins targets this race every year having won it 9-times in the last 12 years including an amazing 6-times in a row with Quevega between 2009-2014 and it’s difficult to see what stops Concertista adding to that tally this time round. This 7 year old mare very impressively won the Novice version of the event over 2m1f at the Festival last year storming away by 12 lengths after the final flight to destroy her 21 rivals and she has had an even better prep in her two wins this season around this 2m4f trip. She is likely to take all the beating.

HOMME PUBLIC

0.5 PTS EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT 12/1 WITH BET365

SAGE ADVICE

0.5 PTS EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT 18/1 WITH BET365

As you would expect at Cheltenham, this is a highly competitive 22-runner handicap which I started by narrowing down to a shortlist of those who I thought had winning chances. They are – Houx Gris, Saint Sam, Riviere Detel, Homme Public, Sage Advice, and Zoffanien. These are all backable in my opinion but you can’t pick six so I have opted for the two I thought looked the best value at the prices. They are Homme Public (12/1) and Sage Advice (18/1). Homme Public was only a neck behind the re-opposing Favourite, Houx Gris, off level weights when they met in France and he won his maiden by 6.5 lengths last time. He has the potential to improve, is carrying a nice low weight, and will be approaching full-fitness on his third start of the season. Sage Advice was a beaten 4/6 Favourite last time but could get back on track today on less testing ground. He too carries a nice low weight and doesn’t look one to give up on just yet. He could go well at 18/1.

SNOW LEOPARDESS

0.5 PTS EACH WAY BET ADVISED AT A WIDELY AVAILABLE 14/1

I thought at shorter prices Next Destination (5/2) and Remastered (6/1) wouldn’t be far away but I liked the 14/1 available for Snow Leopardess who was a beaten Favourite last time but looks to have a decent each way chance in this for the in form Charlie Longsdon yard (Last 14 days: 2-10, 20%). Her form since she went chasing around 3-mile staying trips reads 3212 and the extra yardage today (3m6f) could spark further improvement. The in form Aidan Coleman (Last 14 days: 5-15, 33%) is in the saddle and she could go close in receipt of 7lb from her male counterparts.
